Contact Lenses
Q: Why should I be seen annually for contacts?
A: Contact lenses should be evaluated yearly by your eye care professional. It is important that your eye doctor check the fit of your contacts and the health of your eyes. Each person’s eyes have individual characteristics, so contact lenses may fit differently from person to person. Contacts can sometimes cause discomfort and even cause damage to your eye if they are not fitted properly. The surface and health of your cornea will also be checked to ensure proper fitting. Education regarding proper techniques for insertion and removal of lenses, proper method of disinfection and general contact lens care and hygiene will also be reviewed. Follow up visits are generally done to ensure proper fit, comfort and that you have not had a reaction to the material of your lenses or care solutions. Contact lenses are considered medical devices and require a prescription.
